In November Alibaba held its annual shopping festival. Singles Day or Double 11 as it’s known in China is now the online shopping event of the year beating America’s Cyber Monday into a distant second.
To illustrate just how big Double 11 has become Tmall have produced an infographic giving a breakdown of the 24 period. I have translated the infographic into English and reproduced it below.
Recently I wrote about Double 11 and gave a run down of everything you need to know about Singles Day. This year the shopping bonanza eclipsed last year’s event.
Some take outs from Double 11 2014 include:
- Sales grew over 63% YoY to US$9.2 billion
- 43% of sales came from mobile compared to 15% in 2013
- In 2013 Americans spent US$2.9 billion online during Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined
