Ever feel like you’re finally understanding the formula for winning Rednote content, only to realize (after many hours of hard work) that you actually have no clue?
We know that feeling. You’ve just spent hours planning the perfect topic, designing an eye-catching cover, and packing your post with useful content, only to get less than 10 views. Meanwhile, a quick 10-second video you casually shot earns over 100 likes.

But that’s all set to change, as a recent platform development is providing content creators with (what once seemed like) the secret recipe for high-performing content.
As a social platform with 300 million monthly active users, everyone wants to become a content creator and earn something on the platform. With Rednote’s rising global popularity and an influx of international users, the platform rolled out nine major updates to its algorithm to encourage high-quality user-generated content. They even plan to disclose parts of the algorithm, offering insights into what really works when publishing a note or a video.
To help you get up to speed with these developments, we’ve summarized the most important highlights and takeaways based on publicly available information.
Summary
- Publish relevant content (based on the field selected in your profile settings).
- Add suitable hashtags, keywords, and tags to get extra views.
- Keep on top of your account activity (comments, follows, and forwards) to make sure the platform knows you are a real person.
- Adhere to the rules of the platform.
- Be selective with your use of Rednote ads (don’t rely too much on them).
Your Account
Worried that your account never seems to gain traction? Wondering if it can be saved?
Rednote evaluates every account based on factors like activity level, content quality, originality, topic consistency, and rule violations.
In short, your account rating will depend on
- the more your account acts like a real person,
- the more focused and original your posts are, and
- the less spammy or repetitive your behavior is.
However, if your posts feel robotic and low-effort, your reach will stay limited.
Your Posts
What kind of post makes it into the next traffic pool and in front of an even larger audience?
Interaction is key: After publishing, your post is awarded a score based on its performance. We’re not exactly sure how many “points” each metric receives, but we do know that they’re ranked as follows (with Follows being the most valuable):
- Follows
- Shares
- Comments
- Saves
- Likes
Obviously, the higher the total score, the greater your chance of your post being pushed to a broader audience.
Post length: Posts over 600 characters receive a slight boost in reach, but don’t go overboard. Long doesn’t always mean good (keep user attention span in mind).
Keywords, Tags, Hashtags: Include relevant keywords in your post to help users find your content, and add tags and trending topics to increase your exposure. The following note contains hashtags we felt were suitable and/or trending.

Below is an example showing how we added topics related to brand keywords to a note. We also do the same with video content.

We also add keywords and topics related to the client’s industry, which can increase the chance of users finding the content.

Avoid violations: Certain words in Chinese, such as 钱 (money), 死 (death), or 爽(pleasure), may be flagged as sensitive. Even if they appear in the comments section, they can limit your post’s visibility. (Obviously, banned content like adult material, drugs, or gambling is, of course, strictly prohibited.)
Traffic Distribution
There’s a common belief that only influencers get traffic, and regular users have no chance. Rednote officially stated that over half of its traffic is reserved for everyday users, as long as your content (notes or videos) is valuable in the eyes of the platform.
This is one of the reasons Rednote stands out compared to other platforms, as it gives everyone a real opportunity to shine.
The “Sincerity Score”
Rednote has internal systems to identify whether an account feels “genuine”. The more human-like your behavior (real interactions, browsing notes, making comments), the higher your sincerity score and the more traffic you’re likely to receive.
Pro Tips
- Frequently editing published posts may lower their reach.
- Don’t log into multiple accounts using the same device or buy fake engagement because it hurts your account credibility.
- Unverified accounts, those that spam users with private messages or push off-platform links, may be penalized.
What We’ve Noticed
From our experience, we’ve found that accounts using Rednote’s Juguang advertising platform tend to get more traffic for promoted posts but see a drop in organic reach on regular posts. Is that a way the platform pushes the users to spend more on the ads? So far, Rednote’s support team has not provided an official explanation.
That said, ads help boost visibility, so if you already have a high-performing post, combining it with advertising can maximize its reach. But remember: ads aren’t a magic fix, and you must still optimize every post carefully.
Rednote is currently the only major Chinese social platform openly sharing details about its algorithm, and this is a strong signal of its commitment to users. It also highlights how much the platform depends on consistent content from everyday creators.
So now that we’ve got this edge, let’s make the most of it and create even better content together!
