Baidu – Search ads

Baidu is undoubtedly the most popular search engine in China.

Their robust search ads system—similar to Google’s—allows you to place ads in front of people searching for what you’re selling.

We’ve run campaigns as large as Microsoft’s (the largest in the world at the time) to as small as Grammarly (when they had just two employees).

Rednote – Excellent ROI on the “platform of the moment”

Rednote attracts young users interested in multiple lifestyle areas. Makeup enthusiasts, travel vloggers, fitness fanatics, and students interested in international study are just some of the people using the platform.

For any ad campaign to an international Chinese audience, Rednote is often our first choice.

The key to success is excellent “notes” (Rednote’s short text, image, and video posts). After creating several thousand of these notes, we’ve gotten very good at it.

Everybody in China uses WeChat.

It’s a comprehensive app including chat, friend feed, branded Official Accounts, video “Channels,” and more.

WeChat’s ad system allows you to target people by demographic and interest by leveraging WeChat’s incredible insight into each of its one billion+ users.

Case Study: Microsoft

US search marketing agency Point It was running a successful global search campaign for the Microsoft Store, but the only country they needed to activate was China.

Our strategy:

  • Plan and operate search advertising across China’s major engines
  • Adapt global SEM playbooks to local search behaviour and policy requirements
  • Continuously optimize bids, keywords, and creatives to hit strict return-on-ad-spend targets

Results:

  • Exceeded Microsoft’s ROAS target of 400%, reaching peaks of 1,200%
  • Established reliable, scalable on-site purchase growth within China
  • Integrated smoothly with Microsoft Store’s global paid search operations

“NMG has been a great partner to complement Microsoft Store’s global paid search efforts in an otherwise challenging market.

NMG is able to quickly adapt to changes with consistent results, while their knowledgeable staff is quick to respond, willing to help, and always on the lookout for testing and growth opportunities.”

Chinese Advertising Service FAQ

Yes. Usually, you only need to submit your business license and bank statement (with some sensitive information removed). Businesses in some industries will require additional certification documents.

We generally update reporting data in Google Looker reports once per week. Some clients also view data directly in their Baidu account, although the interface is in Chinese.

The reports have an English-language interface. Keywords are shown in Chinese, with keyword data AI-translated into English. Sometimes the AI translation is incorrect, but it’s fine for over 90% of keywords.

We recommend committing to at least three months of active advertising.

Before then, it will take about two weeks to set up the account and properly build the campaign. This is a conservative timeline, assuming some back-and-forth communication with you.

After launching ads, three general scenarios occur:

    1. It’s best to plan for a scenario where we will get traffic and inquiries within the first week. However, Chinese consumers are demanding and will have feedback about what your offering lacks. As a team, we must listen to them and respond by improving the offer and marketing. This result is most likely if you aren’t ready for Chinese-level competition yet, as it is a step above everywhere else.
    2. It’s not unlikely that your advertising efforts will immediately bridge the gap between your offer and customers. This result is most common if you already have Chinese customers and want to expand.
    3. You may also get traffic, but very few strong leads. This indicates a major mismatch between your offering and what the actual people viewing your ads want.

We’ll do better than merely translating your ads.

We’ll use your ads for inspiration, especially ones with a strong performance on Google, Meta, or wherever you advertise outside of China.

However, we will create all the Chinese ads (text and images) from scratch. We will also share the AI-translated English version of the ads with you for discussion.

Yes. You must provide us with a certificate of incorporation/business license and a bank statement to show that the same entity holds the legal business, website, and bank account.

We will show you more details during the sales or setup process.

They might request that a certain page or topic be removed, for example, a page related to crypto investments.

During our consultation process, we will consider multiple options; our most commonly recommended choices are Baidu, WeChat, and Rednote.
