Chinese Tourism Marketing FAQ

While the tourism industry is not a sensitive topic in China’s regulatory environment, general rules for advertising apply. For example, superlatives like “best” or “favorite” are not allowed to be used in advertisement texts. Certain types of sales promotions are also restricted, for example when discounts are misleading. While influencer campaigns are highly popular in China, they are also very regulated.

Yes, but…

Some Western websites like YouTube, search engines like Google, and social media like Facebook are blocked in China. But since Chinese people use other social apps, that’s where you can advertise your brand and reach these consumers.

Foreign business websites are typically not blocked in China. Your website may load slower, but we show you which modifications solve this issue.

There are no special requirements to advertise tourism services in China. However, to open accounts on major Chinese social media platforms, a business license, ID, bank account details, and other supporting documents are typically required.

Once we decide to work together, we can start advertising in China within as little as 2-4 weeks. This depends on the strategy we agree on, the goals, the required steps, and your input.

As for results, it varies. Ok, what does this mean? If your goal is to drive traffic, this can be seen and reached within as little as 72 hours. If your goal is to engage followers, this typically takes a few weeks. If you wish to convert these followers into buyers (drive ROI) and grow your channel, this usually takes a few months. Finally, brand loyalty and repeat customer engagement take several months.

In the initial stages of your collaboration, we will provide daily updates (WeChat, Slack, ClickUp, or email) and hold weekly online meetings to ensure that we fully understand your needs and goals and implement the strategy accordingly.

Every month, we will provide an interactive visual report from all platforms and your website, which summarizes the results from the previous month. We will also lay out the strategy for the following month.

Once every 3 months, we will review the progress and discuss whether there are any adjustments to the strategy required.

Ultimately, every decision is yours. However, we do recommend a Chinese website if you want to reach Chinese customers and impactful enter the Chinese market. Why? Even if your target audience speaks English, a Chinese website with localized content improves their experience. Besides, this content can also be used for Chinese social media and other platforms or uses like newsletters.

Simple translations of content don’t work in the Chinese market. That’s because Chinese culture and online preferences vastly differ from the West.

However, we can help you with the localization of your English content and adapt it in a way that your Chinese audience will find it appealing and attractive.

High-quality photos and videos are very important for the hospitality sectors, and these also require a localized approach so that Chinese netizens can relate, and identify themselves with it.

Many of our clients face this challenge. Initially, our bilingual team is happy to assist with the Chinese communication within your business to set everything up and get the process started. Once your business grows in the Chinese market and has its first Chinese customers, it will be more effective to hire a Chinese customer officer. Using our industry expertise, we can train new hires and have them ready for the role in no time.

Absolutely! We have worked with Qatar Airways in the past, and currently, several car rental platforms and companies are among our clients. Please refer to the Case Study section above for details.

To get started, we offer you a free initial consultation (30 minutes), so you can get to know us and vice versa. In this step, we can determine your needs and goals, and how we are able to assist you.

As a second step, we create a tailor-made proposal with deliverables, timelines, and budget. We usually deliver this proposal in the form of a mix-and-match menu and within 2 working days.

Finally, after you have chosen tasks and campaigns from the menu, we sign an agreement and start with the implementation to get you ahead in the Chinese market.

Most of our clients in the hospitality sector ask us to manage everything, from project initiation to implementation and strategy. However, if you prefer to be more involved or need direct control over accounts, we are also happy to accommodate this.

If you prefer a one-off consultancy to set your strategy for the Chinese market and want to implement the individual tasks yourself, we are also happy to be of service to you!
